Interview with an Industry Leader: Jeffrey M. Woods

President, Black Mountain Construction | Development

We sat down with Jeffrey M. Woods President and Founder of Black Mountain Construction | Development, a privately owned company based in the San Francisco bay area, which builds fine homes and renovates luxury high-rise residences.

Jeff, thank you for joining us today… What trends are you seeing in the construction and development arena that are particularly notable?

"The affluent client wants a home that’s beyond luxury and they are willing to pay a premium to build it. They want their spaces designed to provide an extraordinary lifestyle experience with construction that is well crafted and well detailed.

We are building homes that provide seamless transitions between living areas and we are seeing more glass and lift-and-slide doors, designed to open and disappear to create expansive usable spaces and bring the outdoors in.

Homes that embody healthy smart living and sustainable design are sought after by homeowners savvy to health and wellness. Standards to meet Green Building certification, RCC frame structures, fire- resistant uPVC sliding windows, clean air filtration systems, energy-efficient lighting and appliances, as well as, in-home saunas, personal gyms, and tranquil spa-like bathrooms are just a few of the requested features in home wellness design.

For the clients whose privacy and security is of utmost concern, private entrances and exits and advance security systems are features they most request. With these latest systems, homeowners can control their home automation and security systems through their smartphones in the home or remotely.

Also trending are unique designer finishes, bold interior décor, and lavish amenities. For high-net-worth individuals, there is a shift towards lifestyle preferences and experiential luxury in home construction. "

Following a trend requires staying ahead of it as well.

What are some of the challenges that you face?

"With the most affluent homeowners, we face challenges of keeping ahead of the latest in home security and automation, earth-friendly building materials and seeking top-of-the-line accoutrements that amplify a luxury lifestyle. "
