SPRING IS HERE, AND YELLOWSTONE IS OPENING ITS DOORS

One of the greatest perks of living in Billings is how close you are to one of the most iconic destinations on earth. Yellowstone National Park opens to visitors the Friday before Memorial Day each year, and Billings residents have one of the best access routes in the country — through the charming mountain town of Red Lodge, up the breathtaking Beartooth Highway, and straight into the northeast entrance of the park.

Spring in Yellowstone is truly something special. In May, bison calves dot the Lamar Valley, grizzly bears emerge into roadside meadows, wolf pups begin appearing from their dens, and wildflowers like glacier lilies and bitterroot begin to bloom. It's one of the best times of year for wildlife viewing, with fewer crowds than the peak summer months.

By June, all roads are typically open, campgrounds are filling up, and the park is in full swing.
