Taos Pueblo shares the Holidays
As the sun goes down and Mother Mary begins her walk, the bonfires are lit. Friends and family warm themselves between the bonfires. Visitors startle from the unexpected rifle blasts and awe at the spectacle as dancers accompany the procession...
Each Christmas Eve Taos Pueblo invites others to share in their traditions. It is cold when the sun goes down...dress warmly.
From biscochitos to make, luminaries to light, trees to decorate and friends to meet, there is a warmth of the season in our corner of New Mexico.
The Taos Ballet is performing the Nutcracker. The Taos Chamber Music Group will be at the Harwood for a seasonal concert.Taos Ski Valley's has its community weekend with Santa and ice skating. The Festival of Trees will be at the Bataan Hall sponsored by Rotary, and Bonfires on Bent Street and Kit Carson Road Holiday Celebration will be a perfect time to meet friends and shop.
Then there is the old question of what to call the little paper bags with candles.......click here to see that in 1590 it all started with a lantern and a Spanish explorer: Luminarias vs Farolitos
Selling Your Home This Holiday Season or any season of the year!
If you really need to sell your home, you don’t have to wait until after the holidays. While there are fewer homebuyers, those actively searching are often committed to making a swift move.
You can make your home stand out in several ways:
Price it right. A lower price will excite buyers, but only accept a fair offer.
Clean and declutter. For a few hundred dollars, a cleaning crew will make your home look spotless. Pack away anything you don’t need in moving boxes and store.
Keep holiday decor simple. String lights and evergreen branches. Skip the big tree and place a small one on a tabletop instead. Bake cookies and serve cinnamon cider for showings. (T
his makes the house smell good and inviting.)
Prioritize the exterior. Make sure leaves are picked up, snow is shoveled, and walkways are safely de-iced.
Let someone else host dinners and parties. You can still enjoy holiday festivities without doing all the cooking and planning yourself. Friends and relatives will understand.
Joel's Green Thumb
When you think of beautiful Christmas evergreens and flowers and plants, do you ever think of an orange tree? Most likely not.
We have the Christmas cactus blooming along with the 3 poinsettias that have been successfully brought through the year. Joel added some Paper Whites to the mix that are sitting in my kitchen window, scenting the room.
But oranges! Don't know how long ago, but a friend gave Joel an orange tree and a limon tree. For many years they were just trees taking up alot of room. It was nice that they would bloom and make the house smell like the citrus groves in Florida. The fruit was never all that great....until.... Joel started watering them daily and placing them outside for the summer. It may not be much, but we have 8 oranges yet and only 1 limon for this year's crop. They are juicy and taste delightful.
We are saving them for Christmas morning.
(Ha....to Pittman and Davis!)
Merry Christmas from the Schantz Team
