If You’re familiar with Proposition 13, You already know that homeowners are protected from rapidly increasing taxes. However Few people get those tax breaks. State data shows granted claims represent less than 1 percent of all transfers of single-family homes in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Currently: Proposition 60 allows homeowners 55 years or older, if they move within their county of residence, for one time, to buy a new house of equal or lesser market value and take their current assessed value with them. Proposition 90 in 1988 expanded the exemption to also apply to counties that have reciprocity agreements. There are currently 11 counties with such agreements, We are volunteers with the California Association of Realtors which is promoting a new initiative would allow homeowners 55 or older to transfer their assessed value to a home of any price, located anywhere in the state, any number of times.
In order to qualify the initiative for the November 2018 ballot, we need to collect over a million signatures by February 28th.
