April Numbers Demonstrate Continued Housing Gains in Illinois 

Both Illinois and Chicagoland median home sales prices were up, and market times were down from a year ago in April. The median price in Illinois was up 10.4 percent from one year ago in April, and up 10.6 percent in the Chicagoland area. The city of Chicago’s median price increased 6 percent, and the city also experienced a year-over-year sales increase of 7.9 percent during the same time period.

Consumer Spending Jump Hits Seven Year High 

Consumer spending climbed one percent in April, the biggest increase since August 2009. This exceeds the 0.7 percent increase that was forecasted. In additional positive economic news, personal income climbed 0.4 percent for a second month in April. With gradual increase in payrolls and wages, consumers are more willing to spend. Disposable income was also up 3.3 percent in April over the previous year. 

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Launches International Website 

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices announced an expansion of international services. A groundbreaking property search platform offers translation into 10 languages and conversion to more than 45 currencies. Additionally, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices’ network of listings will be broadcast to a new network of 70 in-country websites worldwide, serving consumers in 37 countries on five continents.
