Welcome to the month of love in the Desert!

Whether you love the romance of Valentine's Day, or are in love with Modern Architecture - or both - Palm Springs and the Desert Resort Cities provides a host of opportunities to spend a quiet evening relaxing or a night on the town. February is a full swing month of activities including the ever-growing Modernism Week, plenty of golf, polo, and tennis events, as well as fantastic black-tie events for area charities.

tHE RETURN OF THE TIKI

Resurgence in Polynesia

When soldiers returned to the United States after World War II, they brought home stories about life in the South Seas. Best-selling books such as Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl and Tales of the South Pacific by James A. Michener heightened interest in all things tropical.

Tiki as architecture is a fanciful design that incorporates Polynesian themes. The word tiki refers to large wood and stone sculptures and carvings found in the Polynesian islands. Tiki buildings are often decorated with imitation Tiki forms, totems, and other romanticized details borrowed from the South Seas.

Modernism Week’s signature February Event is an annual celebration of midcentury modern design, architecture, art, fashion and culture. This exciting festival takes place in February in the Palm Springs area of Southern California.
