September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Living with cancer is a reality faced by thousands of children all over the world.

Here are a few things we can do to help kids with cancer:

  • Raise awareness and volunteer.
  • Promote gold. Wear gold this month: hair ties and ribbons, shoelaces, t-shirts, crowns, bling with a purpose and pediatric cancer pins will all do the trick.
  • Donate to The Sunshine Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices has been a national sponsor of this organization for more than 25 years and has playeda major role through its many network fundraising activities, helping to put smiles on the faces of kids with cancer everywhere.

I personally lost my mother to cancer, and just about everyone I know has been affected by cancer in some way.  I can't even fathom going through that as a child, or the parent of a child dealing with such a horrific trauma.  Raise awareness and volunteer as you can.  We have to start with ourselves in order to begin to make a difference in someone's future.
